About
Genii
Reaching the magic
community has never been as
easy as advertising in Genii,
the oldest independent magazine
for magicians in the world.
Established in 1936, Genii has
always been an integral part
of the magic fraternity. Founded
by William Larsen, Sr., Genii
has helped shape the growth
of the world of magic for over
seven decades. In 1998, well-known
writer and publisher Richard
Kaufman purchased Genii from
the Larsen family, starting
a new era in the magazine's
history. Genii is published
12 times a year: it comes out
on time every month and has
never been late under its new
owners. Genii is read by over
7,000 magicians around the world
every month and is widely considered
to be the magazine of choice
by the top magicians in our
field.

Reasons to Advertise in Genii
| |
1.
Your Ad is Read and Re-read
... and Re-read
Genii
concentrates on long,
in-depth articles. Naturally
our readers spend more
time with the magazine,
returning to it repeatedly
to explore and re-read.
A poll of readers of both
magazines showed that
they spend almost three
times the amount of time
reading Genii as
they spend looking at
Magic. That means
greater value for your
advertising dollar: the
more times someone opens
Genii, the more
likely they are to see
your ad again and again.
Look closely at the results
below and you'll see that
1 in 6 Genii readers
spends four hours or
more with the magazine
compared with 1 in 25
for Magic--a dramatic
difference. Magic's
rate card will tell you
that 43% more people will
see your ad in their magazine,
but what they don't tell
you is that most of those
people spend less than
two hours flipping through
their pages. Many of our
advertisers comment favorably
about orders and inquiries
they receive many months
after the advertising
has run; our readers save
our magazine and savor
it.

Fewer Ads in Genii Mean
Your Message Stands Out
Genii
is a quality magazine,
not a magic catalogue.
Magic magazine
sells more of its pages
to advertisers each month
than Genii
and fills less of its
magazine with editorial
content. Every month,
more of Genii's
pages are dedicated to
editorial content than
advertising. When Genii
readers see your ad, they
won't be tired of turning
page after page of ads.
Genii's policy:
we never allow advertising
pages to exceed our content
pages.
3.
Spend Less and Get More
A
full-page color ad in
Genii costs $460.
If you purchase a one-year
contract, your 12th ad
is free, bringing the
cost of a color ad down
to $421 per page. Magic
magazine charges you $635
for a color ad and only
gives you 50% off on your
12th ad. (For our advertisers
with smaller budgets,
six-month contracts are
also available for either
six consecutive months
or six alternating months--you
receive 50% off the cost
of the sixth ad.) See
our advertising information
for a complete breakdown
of available ad sizes
and prices--all are available
at contract pricing.
4.
All Full-Page Contract
Advertisers Get a Free
Subscription
When
you become a contract
advertiser in Genii,
we won't send you the
torn-out page on which
your ad appears--weíll
send you the entire
issue! We want you
to see how it appears,
where it appears, and
the quality of the content
that surrounds it. We
want you to be as proud
of your ad as we are of
our magazine. You'll get
a free subscription to
Genii for the duration
of your contract (this
applies to all contracts
except those for three,
two, or one inch ads).
5.
If You're Newsworthy We
Won't Hold It Against
You
We
know that you may not
be just an advertiser,
you may also be a newsmaker
as well. And your product
may merit an editorial
endorsement. Why give
your advertising dollars
to a magazine that avoids
your news and shies
away from giving worthy
recommendations from the
editor about your products?
Over the past seven years
I've personally recommended
many products from our
advertisers in "Genii
Speaks." Nothing
makes me happier than
passing on my enthusiasm
about your products to
our readers.
6.
Free Online Advertising
All
contract advertisers in
Genii receive FREE
advertising space on the
Genii Website and
the Genii Forum (now with
over 6,000 registered
members, and regularly
seen by over 10,000 people).
There is a minimal service
fee of $10 the first time
you place your ad and
each time you change it,
but that's it.
If you want to give us
an ad for the Genii
website and run it for
the length of your contract,
the only cost you will
incur is the one-time
$10 service fee. Your
ad can be free-standing,
or it can be a banner
with a link to your website
(or to a specific product
on your website).
7.
Inserts--Put your Ad into
the Hands of Genii Readers
Did
you know that in December
2004 Genii was
the first magazine in
the history of our field
to include a DVD absolutely
free for its readers?
In May 2005 we included
a free magic trick--a
pop-up wand--in every
copy. In July 2005 we
included a CD-ROM from
Bazar de Magic, again,
free in every copy. In
October 2005 we included
a new DVD from L&L
publishing. In all of
these cases the advertisers
paid only the insertion
and postal charges (in
addition to providing
the inserts themselves).
Genii
does not make one cent
of profit from this!
We do not charge you any
fee whatsoever for this
advertising. You send
us the inserts, you pay
the cost for insertion
and postal charges (about
$800, subject to change
by the U.S. Post Office),
and you reach every one
of our readers with a
premium that drops out
of the polybag and right
into their hands.
8.
Genii Reaches its Readers
Earlier Every Month
Genii
is printed and mailed
earlier than Magic
magazine every month,
putting it into the hands
of most readers that much
sooner. If you want to
get your message out as
soon as possible, Genii
is the magazine to do
it.
9.
When You Advertise in
Genii You Help Support
A Grand Tradition
Genii
is now almost 70 years
old and has been published
continually since 1936.
It is by far the
oldest independent magazine
in magic. When you advertise
in Genii you support
the grand tradition of
magazines about the art
of magic. We're not publishing
Genii to make a
profit--we do it because
we love the art of magic
and it's a fun way to
make a living. Your advertisements
contribute vitally to
Genii's bottom
line every month. Without
our advertisers, Genii
would go out of business.
We know that and weíre
grateful!
10.
Customer Service for our
Advertisers
When
you call the Genii
office during business
hours, you don't hear
a recorded voice: a person
answers your call from
10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.,
east coast time. We care--we
really want you to advertise
in our magazine and weíll
do anything we can to
help make that process
simple and efficient.
Our office manager, Margret
Daham, is devoted to accommodating
your advertising needs.
And if you ever need to
speak directly to the
editor, just ask for me:
Richard Kaufman. |
