When not doing magic he was Salesman-Driver for Dad's Cookie Company of Oakland.
Conrad became interested in magic when a friend of the family, Charles Schwab (owner of Bethlehem Steel Company) did the Coin Roll with a silver dollar, interspersed with vanishes. Young Conrad was so impressed that Schwab offered to teach him using a penny to fit his small hands. Conrad got the lesson, the penny,and the silver dollar, all of which he has kept the rest of his life.
His specially would become an illuminated version of the East Indian Sand Trick, which won for him the Trophy for Original Presentation at the 1959 Gearhart, Oregon, P.C.A.M. Convention.
He was serving as the Historian of the P.C.A.M. in 1970.
