Fred Johansen (1911-2004) was a professional magician in Omaha, Nebraska in the 1930s.
With his twin brother Ferd, they performed together as "The Twin Mystics" in schools around Hay Springs, Nebraska where they grew up. He began working as a professional magician when he moved to Omaha, Nebraska.
During World War II he served as a communication specialist in Washington D.C. and traveled China in that capacity. He also worked as a cryptologist for the National Security Agency (NSA).
Johansen invented the The Mongolian Silk Mystery in 1953 while he was a member of IBM Ring 50 in Washington D.C.
He later served as president of the "Columbia Conjurors" SAM Assembly #141 in Columbia,Maryland. During his "part-time" career as a magician later in life, he performed every Christmas time to entertain news reporters and their families at the National Press Club.
