== Biography ==<br />
<br />
As a child, Greg McMahan performed shows for his parents, including brother and sisters as cast members. In the early 1970's his whole family took to the stage at local community theaters in Cincinnati, Ohio.<br />
<br />
Also during this time, Greg developed an interest in magic, juggling, puppetry and clowning that has continued to this day. He's written instructional books for other children's entertainers worldwide, and has conducted seminars and lectures for various magician & clown organizations.<br />
<br />
Around 1985 Greg moved to Atlanta and soon began working full time as a magician and childrens entertainer. It was here Greg learned how to manipulate Rocky Raccoon and other spring animals which would become his signature routine. This was the same place David Williamson and Jeff Justice started working with Rocky, which also became their signature routines.<br />
<br />
Since 1992, Greg has taught magic and other variety arts to thousands of children at Circus Camp, a summer day camp near Atlanta which teaches beginning circus skills.<br />
<br />
In 2003 Greg traveled with the Clyde Beatty - Cole Bros Circus as their national spokesperson (performing as The Wizard of Odd). He would promote the circus on local TV stations, radio & newspaper interviews and live appearances during the show's 9 month, 110 city tour.<br />

<div>Magic Masters is a chain of magic shops which has at one time been located in Atlanta, Washington D.C., Baltimore, New Orleans, Orlando and St. Thomas.<br />
<br />
They are located in upper class hotels and tourist areas. The magic props are displayed in showcases with demonstrators manning the booths.<br />
<br />
The Magic Masters operation was the brain child of Ken Fletcher. In 1974, he decided to make his living in magic leaving a franchise sales company to start Magic Masters in Westbury, New York. It started as a manufacturing company with one item, the T.V. Card Frame. Later that year while visiting a relative in Atlanta, Georgia and discussing the problem of what to do with two giant crates of magic effects he had, it was suggested opening a small retail shop just for a month or two, to sell the items. He opened a tiny six by eight foot booth in the OMNI mall in Atlanta selling only magic. Jeff Justice started working for Magic Maters shortly after the shop opened, and helped write many of the sales presentations, including one for Rocky Racoon.<br />
<br />
Dennis Sowers joined later and become the company's best salesman and later headed up the training of new demonstrators. Mike Abston joined next to supervise two stores in New Orleans. David Williamson joined the team in the early 1980s, and Greg McMahan joined around 1986<br />

<div>Magic Masters is a chain of magic shops which has at one time been located in Atlanta, Washington D.C., Baltimore, New Orleans, Orlando and St. Thomas.<br />
<br />
They are located in upper class hotels and tourist areas. The magic props are displayed in showcases with demonstrators manning the booths.<br />
<br />
<br />
Dennis Sowers joined later and become the company's best salesman and later headed up the training of new demonstrators. Mike Abston joined next to supervise two stores in New Orleans. David Williamson joined the team in the early 1980s, and Greg McMahan joined around 1986<br />

<div>Spring Animals are fake animals that is often used by magicians, clowns, comedians, and other entertainers. They can be made to appear very realistic with practice.<br />
<br />
The basic construction of the animal is of a spring wrapped in either real or artificial animal fur. Different colored fur is used for different spring animals.<br />
<br />
Magic Masters is the most popular supplier of spring animals. They supply the following: "Rocky" the Raccoon, "Jules" the White Fox, "Zorro" the Black Fox, "Rrrichard" the Red Fox, "Lithonia" or "Lily" the skunks, "Sylvester" the silver fox, and "Judy" the mouse, a smaller model of spring animals. (Obviously, the given names are often changed by the performer.) Another kind available, though not through Magic Masters, is the rabbit, which is different from the others due to the fact that it has feet. The rabbit is available with either two or four feet.<br />
<br />
== Performance ==<br />
Spring animals can be made to jump through the air, find selected cards, eat from your hand or a cup, and do many other tricks and feats. They can do all these things with simple movements of the hand. This is because the spring inside allows the head and body to move. The tail is moved with a scissor-like movement between two fingers.<br />
With the raccoon, the "Zig Zag Raccoon" trick can be performed, which is a smaller version of the classic Zig Zag Girl illusion. <br />
Though spring animals are not usually performed among the pros, two notable performers are David Williamson and Mister Greggy (Greg McMahan), who have both helped, in their own ways, to shape the spring animal world.<br />
<br />
== History ==<br />
Jules Edelstein, who performed under the stage name of Jules Kallen, designed the first spring operated animal to use in his act. Not only was his creation a major success in his own show, it produced a vast demand for similar animals among his peers. Not one to say no, he crafted more and more spring animals for more and more people. Jules passed away in April of 1984, and left it to Magic Masters to continue the tradition of his workmanship.<br />
<br />
== Debate over the use of Real Animal Fur ==<br />
Dyed rabbit fur is used in Magic Masters' spring animals. However, it is humane. When rabbits are cooked in France, all the fur must be taken off. That fur is then imported to Magic Masters, where it is used in making the spring animals. Otherwise, the fur would be thrown away.<br />
