Encyclopedia of Silk Magic, Vol. 1

Encyclopedia of Silk Magic, Vol. 1 was the second volume in the Encyclopedia of Silk Magic series of books by Harold Rice published in 1948.

It took over eight years to prepare this first volume with ten chapters including:

  • The Romantic Story of Silk
  • How to Dye Your Own Silks
  • Methods of Folding Silks
  • Production Methods (with and without apparatus; single silks and quantity productions)
  • Vanishes; Changes; and Transpositions.

The text was hand lettered and illustrated (over 1800) by Francis Martineau.

It received both the Sphinx and Genii awards for Best Book of The Year.
