Hugh Johnston (1893-1956) was a professional vaudeville cardman.

Biography

The Sphinx in 1912 reports a modern hypnotism act by Hugh R. Johnston, known professionally as Xaviar[1]

He organized one of the first schools for magicians, the "School of Magic", in Chicago.

He was the creator of the Johnston False Shuffle.

He died in a Chicago hospital, at the of age 63, from a liver ailment.[2]
