Clyde W. Powers (c.1877-d.1930) became manager of the New York Headquarters of the Mysto Magic Co. in 1910 and later had four stores with branches in Philadelphia, Chicago, Cleveland and New Haven, Connecticut.

Biography

Powers started as an assistant to Sig. and Bessie Zera around 1888. He demonstrated magic at the World's Pair at Chicago in 1893 and had a school of magic on the exposition grounds at Omaha. At the Buffalo Exposition he worked with Ching Ling Foo for seven months. He also worked with Henry Roltare as an assistant in constructing many of his notable illusions. He became stage manager for the New York Hippodrome Theatre starting around 1905.

In 1914, he be bought Thomas W. Yost's shop, but within a few years Powers sold all of the stock at bargain basement prices.

Dai Vernon was known to visit Power's shop in Manhattan on 42nd Street in 1915 where Harry Kellar, Ching Ling Foo, Houdini, and Dr. Elliott would hang out in the backroom when in town.[1][2]
