Roland Plato (1885-1974), a Los Angles based entertainer worked for over 55 years doing lyceum, chautauqua, vaudeville and school assembly shows.
Biography
A cousin of Judson Cole, his semi-professional career began at the age of 15 when he became locally "renowned" as "The Boy With the Golden Voice" singing at churches.
He began doing magic professionally in 1915, the year he had an accident which resulted in him walking with the aid of a cane the rest of his life.[1]
From 1919 to 1929, as the original "Man with the Radio Mind," Plato specialized with a mind reading show featuring questions and answers.
In the 1940s he began working elementary school assembly programs.
He was a member of the IBM. [2]
Note: Another performer in the 1940s worked under the name "Plato" (with the team Plato and Jewell) was born Robert Platt, but out of courtesy to Johnny Platt adopted the name of "Plato" (not knowing of Roland Plato).
