In performance, known for his trademark red hair and handlebar mustache, theatrical voice, storytelling abilities and biting wit, as well as his dexterity with cards, coins, dice and other close-up items.
Perhaps best known for his "Kirkendall reels," which have been called the finest and quietest reels ever made, without suffering any loss of strength. He made several styles: the utility (finger-clipped) reel, the vest reel and the double reel. His utility reel was slightly larger than the comparable P&L reel. It is highly sought-after by both collectors and workers alike.
