Garrick "Spence" Spencer was a New York corporation lawyer and amateur magician.

He was also a music lover and sang in the Yale choir.[1][2]

Spencer was a student of Dai Vernon and was the person that started calling Vernon "The Professor". In 1936 he funded the Academy of the Art of Magic, the formal association of the New York "Inner Circle" of magicians. [3]

He also helped finance Vernon's Harlequin act in 1938.

He served on the Legal Affairs committee for the was SAM Parent Assembly (he was member No. 2592) and prepared Arthur Finley's will.[4]

Spencer also represented Paul Rosini when Carl Rosini sued him for using his name and won the case. [5]

A "Garrick M Spencer" is listed on the nnygenealogy.com site as being born in 1889 and buried in Brookside Cemetery in Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.[6]
