Known forBullet Catching Act?

Joe Doe, was an unknown African American magician that may have been a victim of the Bullet Catching Act. To quote from the February 1, 1878 issue of The (Atlanta) Daily Constitution, "A Negro magician in Alabama claimed that he was impervious to lead, but another Negro convinced him of his error by shooting him and killing him." One must take into account the fact that it was a Southern white newspaper reporting the story as well as the time it was reported. Once those things have been taken into consideration, one must at least consider the possibility that it was another case of the Bullet Catch gone wrong.
