Appearing Elephant is a stage illusion in which an elephant suddenly appears inside a large box and was devised by Gustave Fasola in the late 1920s.

Howard Thurston bought the idea from Fasola and presented the illusion to the public in 1928.

Doug Henning presented the effect during his 1976 television special.
