Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Paul J. Wood was an active participant in the local St. Louis area magic community throughout the 1950s. A long-standing member with both the Society of American Magicians as well as the International Brotherhood of Magicians, Paul appeared semi-regularly on fellow prestidigitator Ernie Heldman's popular local television show "Parade of Magic," and at St. Louis' former-famed "Petite Pigalle" on Lindell Boulevard. During his military stint with the U. S. Army from 1953 to 1955, Paul was attached to the Entertainment Division at Fort Riley, Kansas where he would perform shows for the troops. He retired from magic following his discharge from the service, but continued to perform on occasion up until the 1980s.
