Joseph Jacobs (1813-1870) was one of the leading conjurers and ventriloquists of the nineteenth century as Wizard Jacobs.
Biography
Jacobs was a contemporary of both Professor Anderson, "The Wizard of the North" and Robert-Houdin. All three were touring the British Isles at the same time.[1]
He began performing around 1834 visits to Dover, Brighton, Bath and then London and would continue to perform for another 58 years.
His London debut in the spring of 1835 at the assembly room of the Horn's Tavern in Kennington. In 1854, he embarked on a tour of America, followed by visits to Australia and New Zealand. Jacobs would return to the United States and Australia in 1857.[2]
