Specialist in playing cards, books on the history of magic & magicians.

Inspired by his grandfather, amateur magician; Hjalmar became a professional magician in 1973. For many years, he toured the world with his wife Gerda, where he presented his manipulation number with appearances of playing cards and doves. Close-up card tricks are one of his specialties. A great collector of books and objects on magic for over 40 years, his collection is one of the largest in the world. His knowledge in the field of magic has allowed Hjalmar to appraise many public and private collections, especially with auction houses in France. From a historical point of view, figures such as Robert-Houdin and Buatier de Kolta have influenced Hjalmar throughout his career. A specialist on Robert-Houdin's mysterious clocks, he has written and collaborated with Theo Priniotakis on their history. Hjalmar has cultivated friendships and relationships with many magicians in France, Belgium, Italy, and the United States, notably with David Copperfield, a great collector like him. In the catalog preface of the public auction at Jean-Pierre LELIEVRE, Pascal MAICHE, Alain PARIS (Chartres Gallery) October 11, 1998, the historian Manfred Zollinger wrote: "What Hjalmar, one of the most important contemporary illusionists, has already done on this ground is remarkable. It is not common that experts in their field are also in distant disciplines. One rarely comes to join the professional art with the passion of collectors. An artist can rarely prove to be historian and bibliographer in his specialty. This is possible, however, as Hjalmar has shown us with the the excellent "Investigator on a collector of the early seventeenth century" (in The Old Paper 1996, with Thierry Depaulis) and also with expertise for catalogs of previous sales. This cataloque will undoubtedly become a working tool in the hands of collectors, historians and bibliographers. " Hjalmar and Gerda currently live in Saint-Just-d'Avray in the Rhone,France== General information about growing up and career
