• Siegfried & Roy performed one last time at a fundraiser for the Lou Ruvo Brain Institute which airs on ABC's 20/20.
• "Masters of Illusion" television series debuts.
• FISM was held in China
• Jay Mattioli and Drew Thomas competed on the television show "America's Got Talent."
• The film "Is Anybody There?" is released starring Michael Caine as a retired magician in a retirement home who becomes friends with a young boy that lives there.
• Houdini's Magic Shop takes over Disneyland's Main Street Magic Shop in California.
• During the Oscars, Philippe Petit performs a French Drop coin vanish during the acceptance speech by the producers of the film "Man On Wire".
• Ed Alonzo tours with Britney Spears featuring illusions.
• On March 8, the Academy of Magical Arts awards Magician of the Year to Guy Hollingworth, Masters Fellowship to Dominique, Lifetime Achievement to Bob Fitch, Performing Fellowship to Celeste Evans and Performing Fellowship to Howie Schwarzman.
• Goodliffe’s Abra weekly magic magazine ceased publication after 63 years and 3,296 issues.
• Rob Stiff of Magic Makers acquired S.S. Adams.
• Abbott’s Magic introduces an online version of New Tops called Newest Tops.
• The FISM took place in Beijing, China with The Grand Prix awarded to Shawn Farquhar for Close-Up and Soma for Stage Magic.
• Eric DeCamps is selected as the Dean of SAM Assembly #1 in New York.
• Max Maven resigned as the Director of Entertainment at the Magic Castle.
• David Meyer announces his retirement editing Magicol, the organ of the Magic Collectors' Association. It was transferred into the care of Magicana, a not-for-profit arts organization by David Ben.
• The American Museum of Magic in Marshall, Michigan hired Jeffrey Taylor as its first full-time salaried director.
• Paul Harris awarded the 27th "Louie Award" from Tannen’s Magic
• MagicPedia surpasses 4,000 articles.

• The final volumes of Bruce Cervon’s Castle Notebooks (Volumes 4 and 5) are released by L&L Publishing.
• The Official CIA Manual of Trickery and Deception (John Mulholland’s "CIA Manual") is published. Genii published same material by Michael Edward in 2001 and 2003.
• A biography of Doug Henning, Spellbound: The Wonder-Filled Life of Doug Henning by John Harrison, is published.
• Paul Harris releases his long awaited project True Astonishments 9 DVD set.
• L&L Publishing released The Essential Dai Vernon which is a collection of all the Vernon books by Lewis Ganson.

• IBM Ring 116 in Ontario, Canada brakes away to form a new local independent club called the Windsor Magic Circle.
• The Pentagram ceased publication and The Hade-E-Gram Magizette began publishing by Micky Hades.
• Neil Foster moved to Colon to become the Abbott Magic Company's chief magician-in-residence and vice president.
• The Elmsley Count was first published by Alex Elmsley, although unnamed, in the marketed trick "The Four Card Trick".
• The Veeser Concept was published in December issue of MUM.
• Cannibal Cards was developed by Lin Searles and marketed
