Adolph Boldt (1870-1960) was an amateur magician and active member of the IBM and the President of Ring One in 1945.

Biography

Visitors to St. Louis were entertained at the specially constructed theater in his house, which he dubbed The Hum-Bug Boldt Theatre (derived from Humboldt the naturalist whom he admired). IBM Ring One members were entertained there annually on New Year's eve.

His youth was spent in Little Rock, Arkansas, where he received his education and grew up on a farm. His interest in magic began at the age of 12. Later he became manager of The Chamber of Commerce in Houston, Texas.

He represented the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for approximately 30 years in 11 states. Since his business interests necessitated a great deal of traveling which took him to many parts of the country he was well known as a magic enthusiast in many sections.

He spent the last 25 years of his life in St. Louis. While residing in St. Louis he was instrumental in starting the IBM Ring in Little Rock. Arkansas and planning both the 1946 and 1952 International IBM Conventions in St. Louis.

In 1944, Boldt was presented with a wand bearing the inscription "Official Host to IBM Ring One and Dean of St. Louis Magicians." He served as president of Ring One the following year. [1]

Genii issue for July 1952 reported that Adolph Boldt is still going strong at the age of 81.[2]
