Al Mann (1924-1999) invented over 32 mentalism effects and authored many publications on magic.

Biography

Mann was a master mariner, spending forty-year with the Merchant Marine, rising to the rank of Captain. He started performing mentalist part-time in 1949. He performed as "Allemann" for a short time.

Mann became a friend of many New York based magician, including Richard Himber and Dunninger (he was at Dunninger's bedside when he died.)

Many of his publications had unusual names or play on words such as: Area, The Photon Shield, The Sibylline Messages, Acidus, Apodosis, The Tesseract and The Kolophone.

He produced the DiploMental (or Diplomatic) Pouch, a three-fold leather portfolio which contained countless hidden compartments.[1]
