Appearing Elephant is a stage illusion in which an elephant suddenly appears inside a large box and was devised by Gustave Fasola in the late 1920s.

Howard Thurston bought the idea from Fasola and had it built but never ended up performing it because of difficulties in traveling with such a large animal.

Doug Henning presented the effect during his 1976 television special.
