Bill Spooner, a retired teacher and researcher, is an author, publisher, magic historian, inventor, collector, lecturer and Past International President of the International Brotherhood of Magicians (1985).^[1]

Biography

Spooner developed an interest in science and magic at an early age, particularly after seeing Virgil (1900-1989) perform in his hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina. He spent most of his career with the North Carolina Department of Education.

For the N.C. Department of Education, as a science teacher on the Educational Television network in 1967, he produced 435 thirty-minute science programs for the state-wide network, appearing as "Mr. Wizard." He used magic to hold students' attention and illustrate scientific concepts. The TV series initially ran for for years and then another four years on video tape.

After retiring in 1997, he turned his focus to magic. He has been a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians (IBM), for over 60 years, serving as thier International President in 1985 and International Treasurer from 1990 to 1995. He elected an Honorary Member in 1993, and in 2012 received the IBM's The Medallion of Honor. He also has received two trophies for the best articles of the year published in The Linking Ring.

He was a charter member of the IBM Wallace Lee Ring #199 (Raleigh), which he served as its first president, and the Del Ray Ring #248 (Wilmington).^[2]
