Maly was a professional magician and salesman.
Maly gave his first show at the age of eleven in a movie house in Cincinnati, Ohio. While doing He then spent about five years performing in the Carnival and Park game as "Alexandra". [1]
The Maly home in Indianapolis was a mecca for magicians, in the twenties and thirties, when performers like Blackstone Sr. and Thurstonccame through the area, they went over after the show for refreshments and hours of magic talk.
While Charlie did shows for money, he also was a salesman on the road for different companies.
During World War II, the he moved to Chicago due to promotion in the sales job. His firm became "Grocery Store Products" and he was active in it until his retirement to Florida in the late sixties. [2]
Maly was a mentor to Charlie Miller and [[Fawcett Ross].[3]
Maly wrote an unpublished manuscript in 1936 about Paul Rosini's act. Maly watch Rosini perform at the Park Plaza Hotel in St. Louis, Missouri. He discussed the effects with Rosini and made detailed notes. These notes were in the collection of Max Hapner, who passed it along to John Moehring. With Hapner's permission, Moehring made the manuscript available to Chuck Romano who used them in Part Two of his book about Rosini called "House of Cards".
