Charles S. Eby (c.1873-?) was an amateur conjurer and elocutionist in Washington, D. C..
Biography
He retired as head of the U. S. Bureau of Mines expense voucher unit in 1944. He was an Government employee for more than 42 years
After receiving his early schooling in Pennsylvania, Eby toured a vaudeville circuit with a magic and marionette act. He gained recognition later in the motion picture projection field when films were still being shown in churches, public halls and auditoriums.
He took part in many of the entertainments given by Henry R. Evans in the Masonic lodges of Washington, D. C. and Evans mentions Mr. Eby in the "Old and the New Magic".
Mr. Eby's grandson, Lieut. John W. Townsend, of the U. S. Army Air Corps, also took up magic.[1]
He was a member of the I. B. M. and his reinstatement appears in the January 1956 Linking Ring.
