Dr. Charlton Chute (1906-1085) was doctor of philosophy and long time member of both the IBM and SAM.

Biography

Chute became interested with the magic bug as a youth, learning from Professor Hoffman's magic books at his local public library.

From 1922 to 1929 he was a popular entertainer in and around Los Angeles while attending UCLA. He graduated with a degree in political science and then went to the University of Chicago to get a Doctor of philosophy degree in public administration in 1935.

From 1938 to 1947 he served with the Government Research Institute of St. Louis, Missouri. While in St. Louis he served as president of the IBM Ring One.[1]

He taught Political Science at the University of North Carolina and by 1947, Linking Ring reports show him living near Philadelphia.

In 1957, he was named to a committee of three appointed by J. Edgar Hoover to help the FBI develop uniform crime reporting systems.

He later became Director and Secretary of the Institute of Public Administration in New York City and in 1962, he joined the faculty of NYU as a Professor of Public Administration. After retiring in 1973, he was named Professor Emeritus of the Graduate School of Public Administration at NYU.

Once on a trip to Africa, Dr. Chute took along his magic and the students there were mystified by his egg bag routine and other magic effects.

He lived the last 30 years in New Canaan, Connecticut and was the Dean of IBM Ring 97 in Stamford, Connecticut. [2][3]
