Chavez Studio of Magic
The Chavez Studio of Magic, founded by Benny Chavez on June 17, 1941, was one of the first schools for magicians. In 1946 the course of study was approved by the California State Department of Education, which allowed Veterans of World War II to study under the G.I. Bill of Rights.[1]
Also known as the "Chavez College of Manual Dexterity and Prestidigitation", the courses focus from the basic to the most advanced with cards, coins, thimbles, billiard balls, and cigarettes with the emphasize on stage and parlor magic. They also offer consultation services to help with routines, development of an act and promotion.
When Benny Chavez passed away in 1962, Marian Chavez continued to operate the school from her studio in Panorama City. When she passed away in 1978, Neil Foster and Dale Salwak became the co-owners. When Foster passed away in 1988, Salwak continued on with the West Coast branch.[2][3][4][5]
