Norton first became interested in magic in the fall of 1900 after seeing Harry Kellar at the McVicker's theater.

Norton's first appearance in public was at 15 for a church function in Chicago on May 23, 1901. Soon after, he began a successful career. During the summer of 1905 he also worked with Jack Burch.

He later moved to San Jose where he was member of the Mystic Thirteen.[1][2]
