Don Dunn, originally from St. Louis, retired as a writer in New York City and moved to Zimbabwe.
Biography
Dunn began doing magic while attending Ashland Grade School and continued onto Beaumont High School where he formed a magic club. His first performances were for the Lions Club in East St. Louis and U.S.O. Clubs during the war years. Beginning in 1942, he would spend time at the Lindhorst Magic Den where St. Louis had an informal Round Table headed by Ben Badley.
Dunn would earn a degree in journalism at Washington University and began writing plays and lyrics for songs. He would get married in 1953 and moved to New York to write for Business Week magazine in 1958, where he stayed for twenty-six years. He was the ghost writer for books by an ex-Mayor of Jersey City and comedian Steve Allen.
He married his second wife, Kerstin Trone, who was Chief of the Latin American and Caribbean branch of the United Nations Fund for Population Activities. When she was asked to go to Africa, Dunn retired moved with her to Zimbabwe. In Zimbabwe he returned to magic, becoming a member of the Zimbabwe Magic Circle and did his first show there in 1993.[1]
