Dr. James E. Pierce (1883-1931) was a handcuff worker, who left to practice chiropractics.

Biography

By trade, he was an electrician and expert wireless operator. By 1898 he had developed skill in sleight-of-hand and branched out in vaudeville as a magician. Soon after his handcuff act became so popular, he changed his performance to a challenge act, featuring escapes.

By 1914, Pierce was issuing a magical catalog under the name of, The Pierce Magic Co. in Philadelphia, Pa.
