J. H. Durno, born in Rockford, Illinois, performed successfully as "The Mysterious Durno" on the Lyceum circuit.

Durno began work in 1899 and would travel with Carl Herrman, not the magician by the same name but "The Prince of Violinists".

It was reported in the July 1904 issue of the Sphinx that "Durno closed a thirty weeks successful season May 9, having traveled through thirty-one states, covering 18,467 miles, and never missed a date."
