Elmer Gylleck (b.1898-d.1988), a Chicago area architect, ventriloquist, and magician, performed with his brother Olaf and as his own comedy-magic act as "The Amazing Dr. Clutterhouse".

Biography

As a youngster, Elmer was hired as a "Tent Manager" for the Redpath Bureau. In this capacity he got to see and meet Ed Reno one day every week for the entire summer season. They became close friends.[1]

In 1923, he appeared on the bill of the Annual Show of Assembly #3 in Chicago, with Russ Walsh, The Buckleys, Joseffy (and Balsoma) and others. About the same time he was invited to perform on a show featuring Houdini.

His Dr. Clutterhouse act won recognition at the 1938 S.A.M. National Convention.

During the depression era, he also developed a vent act "Tiny Tingle Toes", a gnome who talked to children. He was very sympathetic to handicapped and underprivileged children, doing many charity shows.[2]

His Dr. Clutterhouse act as advertised in "THE FAMOUS DR. CLUTTERHOUSE COMEDY ACT": Laughs start when Clutterhouse walks on stage. He's carrying a brief case and ghosts leap out of the case, shots fire from it and general pandemonium sets in before he gets rid of it. Then he has trouble with his table and the audience screams as he futilely tries to make it stand up. His solution gets a tremendous hand. Later he gets " caught" on a silk handkerchief and that sets off another laugh sequence.
