Fred Rickard, a graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles as a Chemistry Major, was a semi-professional magician specializing in large illusions.

He became interested in magic in 1920 after receiving a magic set at Christmas. He soon joined the SAM Assembly No. 22 in 1923. Rickard was one of the first to volunteer his services to the S.A.M. Hall of Fame and Magic Museum.

He first met Floyd G. Thayer in 1927, and worked with Bill Larsen Sr. at Thayer's in the 1940s. Rickard later worked with Merv Taylor and Owen Magic Supreme in the 1950s.

His wife, Hellen, whom he married in 1939 was a member of the Magigals.

He was elected into the SAM Hall of Fame in 1986.
