Gene Devoe bought the magic shop from Will Lindorst and operated Devoe's Magic Den in downtown St. Louis and started many a young magician into the Magic art. A true performer, he was always behind the counter with the latest trick and a story. Devoe also produced and manufactured several magic tricks under the Devoe name.

He was a Master magician & showman, he entertained widely in the Midwest. As a magic dealer and leader in his profession, he as highly respected throughout the United States. He was co-founder of the Midwest Magic Jubilee and a long term, active leaders in SAM assembly 8 and IBM Ring One.

He was awarded the St. Louis Magical Heritage Award in 1995 by IBM Ring One and SAM Assembly 8.
