Heba Haba Al (c.1914-1991), one the fathers of bartending magic, performed throughout the 1960s and into the 1980s, becoming synonymous with bar magic in Chicago.

Biography

Over the years, Al worked at magic bars including the New York Lounge and the Pickel Barrel. For a time, following Word War II, he owned his own bar called Heba Haba's Magic Bar in the Rogers Park Hotel.

His trademark became an effect with a cube of sugar. After, drawing a letter on it with a pencil, he'd drop it into a glass of water. Then having a female spectator place her hand over the glass, she'd find the letter on her palm after the cube dissolved.

At the time of his death he was still working performing at Schulien's in Chicago.[1][2]
