Jose Frakson (1891-1981) was billed as "The Man With a Thousand Cigarettes". He had a very successful cigarette magic act and started preforming with black gloves so that large audiences good see his act better.

He was from a very magical family, his father (a doctor), several uncles, a sister and his brothers were all magicians.

He first came to the United States in 1925 when he was booked to do ten weeks but ended up doing 49.

He lost everything in the Spanish Civil War in 1936 but eventually with the help of Dr. Dhotel he emigrated back to the U.S. and resumed a successful career. He became a US citizen in 1945.

Jose's key phrase that he used throughout his act was, "It's Amazing .. It's Amazing".

Awards and honors

  • The Academy of Magical Arts, which he as an Honorary Life Member, awarded him the Performing Fellowship in 1970 and the Masters Fellowship in 1972.
