Peter Godfrey (1899-1970) was a English magician, actor and film director that moved to the United States.

Godfrey began his career at the age of 11 with Swift's Circus in Ireland. He then appeared in the West End, founding the Gate Theatre.[1]

He performed at the London Pavilion, where he was starred and billed as "Your Magical Host" [2]

Godfrey went to Hollywood as an actor in the late 1930s. After appearing in several films, he turned to directing, and spent most of his career at Warner Bros., directing dramas, comedies and thrillers. He left film directing in the mid-'50s and turned to episodic TV series.[3]

He was married American stage and motion picture actress and singer, Renee Godfrey (1919 - 1964)[4]. He died in Hollywood after years in hospital.

He appeared several times on the TV show You Asked For It in the 1950s.
