Ponsin On Conjuring is a compilation of some tricks from Nouvelle Magie Blanche Dévoilée written by J.N. Ponsin (1853-1854) and translated by S.H. Sharpe.
It's been said that Sharpe did not know French very well and that some of the material in the English version was mistranslated. Illustrations, to clearify the text, were added by Wilf Huggins.
In his preface Mr. Sharpe expressed the opinion that Ponsin's work was the first practical work on conjuring in any language.
Three hundred copies were printed, one-hundred-fifty copies were bound in cloth, and another twelve copies were bound as presentation copies in tooled green leather.
In 1944, a further seventy-five bound copies were produced and later smaller quantities were bound as required.
A second edition was published by Jeff Busby Magic, Inc. in 1987.
