Randolph Douglas (1895-1956) was a magician and escape artist who first appeared as Randolph the Magician, then as Randin, and later under the Houdini influence as Randini, The Self Liberator.[1]
Biography
Randin’s first show was at a Smoking Concert for St Vincent’s Catholic Young Men’s Society in Sheffield 26 September 26, 1911.
As a teenager, he gave Houdini the idea to do the straigh-tjacket escape hanging upside down by demonstrating it in a private performance in an attic in England.[2]
Later in life he created a museum of Houdini material at his home in Castleton in Derbyshire. The collection was later acquired by Derbyshire County Council in the early 1980s and then transferred to the Buxton Museum and Art Gallery.[3]
