Ray Amy (c.1924- 1954) was the stage name of mentalist, Ray Amy Amarantes.
Biography
Ray Amy, at the age of 16 in St. Louis, became friends with Roba Collins and Ben Badley. He was with a travelling museum doing magic and escapes. He became an assistant to Collins when Collins managed a side show on the Austin Bros. Circus. He was also with Collins on the Buck Owens Circus & Wild West. Collins was also his agent handling him as "Raymond, the Magician & Co.", and the spook opera, "Raymond and his House of Horrors", which played throughout the Mid-West until in the summer of 1952.
In the years before his death he also worked with Norvelle Weirheim in a very fast mental act until they split up. [1][2]
Ray Amy divorced Lorene Crabtree in 1947, with whom he performed fast mental as "Ray & Zorella" .[3][4]
He published a column in Tops] called "THE VOICE OF THE MENTALIST" in the 1950s.
In 1954, Ray Amy and his new wife, Virginia (age 21), who presented a mental act, were found dead in a tourist court in Madill, Oklahoma due to asphyxiation. The couple had given a mentalism show at Kingston, Texas High School the previous night. They traveled in a car with small trailer for their mmagic equipment. [5][6]
