Rufus Steele (1879- September 9, 1955) was born William F. Steele. Rufus started out as a professional gambler and became a well known card expert.

Magic was just about his whole life, as Rufus never married nor had a family of any kind. He was very active in the magic community and the IBM.

He had lived for the past several years of his life at the Wacker Hotel, where Theo Bamberg and other magicians have made their home, often giving card lessons.
