Magic Tom Auburn, born on the seventh hour of the seventh month, was billed as Canada's Master of Mystery.

He started magic at the age of twelve when quarantined with scarlet fever, he was giving his first professional performance by the age of fifteen.

When war broke out in 1939, Auburn was performing at the top spot night club in Montreal and upon the completion of his engagement he joined the service of his country. During his army career he performed over 1,000 voluntary troop and hospital shows apart from his regular army duties. He was discharged on March 26, 1945.[1]

Being conversant in French as well as English, he performed for eighteen years on local television, on both French and English channels, theaters, supper clubs, and over thirty years in the restaurant table hopping business.[2]

In 1961, Channel 12 in Montreal was offering "Surprise Party" starring Tom Auburn. A weekly feature, later known as "The Magic Tom Road Show" would become the longest-running program in Montreal history.[3]

Auburn was regarded as one of the best childrens' entertainers. In 1978, known as Oncle Tom to the French speaking audiences, he did a magic twice a week on a variety show called Les Tannants on a Montreal television station. [4]

From 1982 to 1983, he performed on the Island of Maui in Hawaii doing over 45 performances and "Magic Tom Auburn Day" was proclaimed on March 3, 1983 by the Council of Maui.

He was a member for over fifty years in both the SAM (Order of the Supreme Council of Houdini) and IBM (Order of Merlin Excalibur) and was also a member (47 years) in the Magicians Guild of America.[5] He was also a founder and honorary lifetime member of SAM Assembly 58 in Montreal.

At seventy two years of age was still working at New Year parties.[6]
