Bob Ellis (c.1920-1984), lawyer and amateur magician, created the popular Out-to-Lunch effect (with Clare Cummings) in 1947.
Biography
Ellis gave performances for charitable groups in and around Huntington, West Virginia. His "Miser's Dream with Dollar Bills" and the "Vishnu Rope Mystery" were included in the Tarbell Course in Magic. (A third item in Volume 5, "Thimble Production", was incorrectly credited to him.)[1]
Ellis served as Mayor of Huntington, West Virginia (1959-1960) and as the County Prosecutor (1969-1973).
He carried I.B.M. No. 8719, was a member of the Order of Merlin (over 25 years of service), and belonged to Rings No. 229 and No. 197 in West Virginia (Huntington and Parkersburg). He was serving as assistant chairman of the I.B.M. Legal Advisors Committee and on the Fleming Memorial Committee at the time of his death.[2]
