He has performed close up bar magic while behind the bar during his college years at the University of Kansas & later on with his clients of his St. Louis Architectural firm  Rataj Architects.

He is a collector of vintage magic photographs, autographs [[Magic Tokens]], & he the current historian of the St. Louis [[IBM Ring One]]. Don researched the IBM Ring One past presidents of which he is also one (Past Ring One President in 1995) preparing historical data for the magic club archives as well as updating MagicPedia. He has also researched the history of the [[IBM Ring One]] Presidents & other famous St. Louis magicians. The book [[The Magic History of St. Louis]] Magic the last 85 years was published in Sept. 2011 & issued free to all Ring One members & past presidents at the Ring One 2011 President's banquet.
