Jim Ryan (1899-1992) did close-up magic at the "The Magic Tap", which he opened in 1933.

Biography

Some close friends and fellow magicians who frequented Ryan's place were: Ed Marlo, Paul LePaul, Johnny Platt, and Matt Schulien.

He sold the tavern business and took a job with the City of Chicago, Department of Weights and Measures. He would continue to work at other bars around town, most often helping Frank Everhart at the Ivanhoe.[1]
