Signor Chillo (b.1864-d.1940) born William A. Shivers in New Athens, Ohio, was regarded everywhere as a Mexican magician and performed in Mexico City. Chillo was also a skilled ventriloquist and hypnotist.
Biography
Chillo was associated with a young Thurston in what was known as the Chillo-Thurston Show.
Signor Chillo was with the Buffalo Bill Wild West Shows on their European tour and impersonated W. F. Cody in the show parade. He also at one time owned and operated the "Chillo Show Boat" on the Ohio River.
He may have been the first magician to escape from a United States mail bag, which is most associated with Houdini.[1][2][3]
His nephew, W.F. Myers, performed as La-Mar (and with his wife as the La-Mars) around Ohio in the 1940s.[4]
