Tenkai (b.1889-d.1972) was born Teijiro Ishida in Japan. Tenkai's wife and partner born Iwa Kato performed under the name Okinu.
Biography
Tenkai lived for some time in Chicago. While a resident of Los Angeles, he was performing in Honolulu when Japan bombed pearl harbor during World War II. He was not permitted to leave Hawaii.
In 1958, he moved back to Japan.
Awards
Received a special Fellowship from the Academy of Magical Arts in 1971.
