"Scotty" McGregor (1898-1988), also known as "The Ol' Lamplighter" was a school show magician who performed as "McGregor, the Scottish Magician." He edited The Lamp newsletter starting in the 1950s for many years.

Biography

McGregor emigrated from Edinburgh, Scotland with his brother after serving in the armed forces during War World I. He became a member of the Indiana National Guard.[1]

In the depression years, much of his income was derived from magic shows presented in schools.

He was very active in the magic societies and became a familiar sight at magic conventions across the United States up to the 1970s. In Troy, Ohio, he became an early member of IBM Ring 3, serving many offices including secretary, vice president, and president. Ring 71 in Cincinnati honored him with their "Order of the Owl" for his lifetime devotion to the advancement of magic and the fellowship of magicians. He was later named an honorary life member of Ring 9 (Atlanta), was an honorary Vice President of the Northern Magic Circle in Scotland, and the Pakistan Board of Magicians.

He corresponded with numerous magicians and was a member of the I.B.M. Sick & Convalescent Committee.

He retired to Manchester, Georgia to be closer to his daughter, where he spent the last two decades of his life [2]
