Do as I Do, You Can't is a plot in card magic in which a spectator tries to follow along with the magician, but fails.
Seems to be a creation of U.F. Grant in 1931.

- Vernon's Variant from Dai Vernon's Ultimate Secrets of Card Magic - four cards are repositions and turned over in a specific sequence. The magician ends up with four face down cards, but the follower ends up with one face up. (1967)
