This was on of the earliest book on the theory of magic, which went further then just explaining how individual tricks worked. Decremps proposed and explain general principles .
 
Some of Decremps' "Immortal" Principles which are still accepted by most magicians today:
# Never announce beforehand the trick you are about to do.
# Have several ways of doing the same trick.
# Never do the same trick twice.
