Igor Kio (March 13, 1944 - August 30, 2006) was a Russian illusionist with the Russian Circus Association. He won numerous awards including People's Artist of the Russian Federation and an Oscar from Belgium. He also was a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians.
Biography
Kio was born into a family of circus performers. His farther was the noted Russian magician Emil Kio. Taught from birth, he began appearing in front of audiences at the age of 5. By the age of 15, he was working professionally.
In addition to his work with the state circus company, he performed on television, including an annual New Years Day program in the 1980s.
He was married briefly to Galina Brezhneva, the only daughter of Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev, which lasted only 9 days. In his second marriage, which lasted 11 years, Kio had a daughter who later performed in his show as a ballet dancer.
In 1989, Kio left the state circus company and opened his own firm organizing tours for his and other artistic teams.
In 1994, Kio staged a gala show, "Magician of the 20th Century", devoted to his father's 100th birthday.
