Prof. Notis (c.1901-1953) was a foremost card expert in South America.[1]
Biography
Commencing show business at an early age in a circus, he became a professional gambler from which he graduated to become a sleight-of-hand card conjurer.
For over thirty years he had worked regularly in South America.[2] Notis performed in Paris and Berlin during his European tour of 1935 and was well known in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Chile.[3]
He was an intimate friend of many of the North American magicians who make the cruise voyages to Buenos Aires.
Notis could perform ten single-handed cuts simultaneously in each hand, balancing a feather on his nose as he did so, and he could juggle with three cards as easily as another juggler with balls.
He died of a heart attack in a taxicab on his return from playing a date.[4]
His "Notis Cascade", a flourish, was described by Lewis Ganson in his Dai Vernon's More Inner Secrets of Card Magic."
