Lawrence S. Cusick (1896-1949) was a semi-professional magician who performed as Cusick the Magician.
Biography
While in Decatur (over 20 years), his home was a gathering place for magicians who came through the area including Blackstone and Dorny Dornfield.
A member of I. B. M. Ring No.14 (The Demons Club) in Decatur, Illinois, he served secretary and president of that club for a few years. He would later become a member of the Hollywood Ring 21 when he moved to California in 1945. He also held membership in the S.A.M.[1]
In the 1920s, Cusick was instrumental in getting the editor of the Decatur Herald to stop exposing magic effects, after the result of an exposing of the Floating Lady Illusion appearing in that paper (which was a reprint from Popular Science).[2]
He had several illusions which he featured in his show including "shooting through a woman" and the "double box illusion". He also built some of his own illusions.
He died of a coronary thrombosis after performing a show for the City of Glendale in which he was the feature act. [3]
